Term 1 - Issue 2 2025
Principals Report

We are now just over the halfway mark of the first term. This is the point of the term where we all say to ourselves how quickly the term has gone, and we still have so much to do.
Thank you to all the parents and family members who attended our athletics carnival last week. It was the biggest turn out of families I have seen at our carnivals, which helped create a great atmosphere. I was extremely proud of our kids as they gave everything a go on the day, were supportive of their friends and generally just had fun!
School Representative Council (SRC)
Congratulations to Mollie, Mila, Evie and Eden for being voted in by our school as the 2025 SRC. I am very sure these students will be amazing role models for all our students and will embody our School Values in all they do.

Now, 5 Years and the Future Survey
We have asked our staff and students what their thoughts, wishes and hopes for our school are now, in 5 years’ time and in the future (we are thinking 15 to 20 years here).
We would love as much feedback as we can get from our community with the same questions. This is to help give us some ideas with planning for our growing school in the coming years. A lot of things are directly out of the school’s control, so please keep this in mind, and no we can’t afford a swimming pool!
All the information from the kids, staff and community will be compiled and shared hopefully next term.
The survey will stay open until Monday 26th May 2025. Please click the following link or scan the QR Code:

Lunch Program Celebration
We are off and racing with our lunch program, and it has been amazing. It is great to see the kids coming in and trying new foods, even a little bit is great. The other big bonus has been the social aspect of the lunch program. We are all sitting together in the hall, which has encouraged our kids to have some great lunch conversations as well as focusing on their manners while eating.
Our Kinder to Year 2 students will start the School Lunch Program in week 1 of term 2. Our kinders will eat in their classroom to keep things a bit easier and to avoid rushing them in and out of the hall. As we will have more kids eating in term 2, we will have some kids in the hall and some in their classrooms and rotate this around throughout the week. All students will receive a meal on a Tuesday and Friday.

Home Reading
A reminder that all our students in the school are now off and racing with home reading for the year. Reading with your kids is one of the most powerful things a parent or carer can do to help support their children’s reading. Please take the time to listen to your kids read or read to them. Reading to you children allows them to see what good readers do, as well as being able to spend some time with their parents!
As always students will get a book for every 50 nights of reading, they do at home. Any questions please speak with your child’s teacher.
Sickness
If you child is sick, please keep them home, we really don't want them at school spreading sickness. We have had a lot of sickness to the start of this year and have had to send a number of kids home from school who shouldn't have been there to start with.
Keep in mind our staff also get sick too! When you are working with so many kids it spreads really easily, which is why we have had so many staff sick the past few weeks.
If you child is sick, please contact the office and let them know.
Bonorong Wild Ride Fundraiser
Bonorong operates Tasmania’s largest 24-hour wildlife rescue service. The service provides care and rehabilitation to thousands of animals injured or orphaned on our roads. More than 500,000 animals are killed on Tasmanian roads every year, that’s nearly one every minute, every day, 365 days a year!
Wild Ride can be anything you like! It could be an endurance challenge or something silly, with your friends, or family, or just you. Anyone can take part and in any way you like. Your ride, your way!
Your Wild Ride could involve running, riding a bike, scooter, a skateboard, roller skates, hopping on a pogo stick, even wearing a costume while you’re doing your Wild Ride! Do a team challenge like a relay race or cycling challenge - anything you like to do could be made into a Wild Ride for yourself or your team, get creative!
Wild Ride will take place throughout March 2025, meaning you can do your Wild Ride when it suits you at home. Ride a bike or a scooter every day for the whole month or just ride on a particular day of March.
As a school we will have 3 Wild Ride events throughout the week during a recess or lunch time. If enough kids can complete the 10-minute Wild Ride Challenge the school will add donate to our kids total.

Art with Mrs Arthur

Students have started the term off drawing self-portraits. Years 3-6 have been drawing using wax crayon transfers with prep-year 2 having a go at shadow portraits and face mapping. Some amazing artwork produced using soft pastels and sharpies to outline.

PE with Mrs Arthur
On Monday students from Prep to year 6 participated at the Bagdad Athletics Carnival held at the Bagdad Community Club oval. It was great seeing everyone have a go, try their best and get into the spirit of their house colours. It was amazing to see so many parents getting out and supporting our students on the day. Also, some impressive running in the parent and student race. Overall results:
- Huntington 638 points
- Cornelian 574 points
- Chauncy 574 points
Well done to everyone on the day. If your child has been chosen for the interschool team they will have received a letter home.

Healthy and Delicious Lunchbox Recipes
Our wonderful School Nurse Meegan has sent through a lovely recipe book jam packed with some delicious recipes to try in your children's lunch boxes.
Kinder with Miss Matthews

Kinder Quolls and Roos have had a fantastic start to the year! We have been busy making friends, learning routines and learning through our play.

1/2 with Miss Sarker

In 1-2 Koalas our Term 1 2025 has started strong. The students are actively engaging in reading, writing, math, physical exercise, and lots of collaborative learning every day. In the pictures you can see the Koalas enjoying their Readers Workshop and Daily PE. Their happy faces are always a joy for all of us at Bagdad Primary School.

3/4 with Miss Williams

In Maths we have been exploring inverse operations. This is where addition can be reversed or undone by subtraction and multiplication can be reversed by division. We have been enjoying the challenge of finding all 4 number sentences that can be created from 3 numbers.
