Term 3 - Issue 1 2025
Principals Report

Welcome back everyone! No surprises, but of course we are off to another smooth start this term.
I spend a lot of time going in and out of classrooms as I really was not cut out for sitting at a desk. It has been great to see more and more each day how the learning culture continues to improve for the better in our school. This year it has really been evident that our kids have the drive to learn and improve. This mindset shift over the past few years has been so important. Over the coming weeks you will be hearing about our new Social Skills focus on learning from our mistakes, with a big part of this being mistakes we make when we are learning class and that feedback from our staff is a good thing to help us grow. Mr L will have more information on this, including the prompt language we will be using coming out very soon.
Winter Festival
Our Winter Festival has come and gone for another year. The highlight for me was definitely seeing all the amazing artwork our students have produced so far this year on display, and of course seeing all our students, families, and other community members there on the night.
A big thank you goes out to our School Association and volunteers who made the night possible. Thank you for your organisation and running of the event. It is greatly appreciated each year. Finally, thank you to Mrs Arthur for all her hard work in art lessons so far this year.

Class Placements 2026
We are currently in the beginning stages of our 2026 class placements. If you have any information, thoughts, or friendship advice that you think we might need in relation to placements please email this to: Bagdad.Primary@education.tas.gov.au
The close off date for this information to be sent to us is Wednesday 24th September 2025 at 3:00pm. Anything after this date will not be considered.
A reminder that teacher requests are not accepted and will be deleted immediately. In addition, we are a small school and the options of which class we put students into is extremely limited.
Enrolments 2026
As mentioned, we are working on classes and other planning for 2026. Part of this is ensuring we know who is at our school next year as it can have a big effect on our staffing. Please contact the office if you think there is information we might need to know, including:
- If you are moving from our school to another for any reason.
- You know of someone who might be due to come to kinder in 2026 who might not have enrolled with us yet.
A reminder that our school has grown considerably over the past few years and we have recently hit out capacity limit, which means we are only accepting new enrolments from our intake area, unless there are very specific circumstances that are in line with DECYP Policies.
Pre-Kinder Sessions
We are doing our pre-kinder a little differently this year. Based on our attendance numbers from last year we found that we were lucky to have only 2 to 3 kids attend most term 3 pre-kinder sessions. Term 4 last year, and previous years, had a significant increase in pre-kinder attendance.
For students who have had their enrolment accepted to Bagdad Primary in 2026 this year’s pre-kinder we will be:
- Running a parent a parent drop-in session on Tuesday 16th September in the Kinder room from 1:30pm to 2:30pm. Kids are free to come along to this one.
- Pre-Kinder starting on Thursday 16th October from 1:30pm until 2:30pm in the kinder room.
- Parent information afternoon on Thursday 4th December from 1:30pm until 2:30pm. Children will stay in kinder during this session with a number of other staff supervising.
Any questions regarding kinder in 2026 please contact the school office and they will be able to assist you.
Student Pick Up Reminders for Parents
If you are picking your child up early for any reasons this must go through the office. After our assemblies' parents are asked to go to the office if you are wishing to take your child home with you early.
A reminder - DO NOT GO TO THE CLASSROOM TO COLLECT YOUR CHILD DURING SCHOOL HOURS.
Our office staff will organise for your child to come down to the office from the classroom. This is a safeguarding and legal requirement for all schools in our state.
Kind Regards,

Aussie of the Month

Congratulations to Hazel for being awarded our Aussie of the Month for the month of July.
Hazel is a respectful and kind student, a great role model, and always demonstrates our school values.
Well done Hazel!
5/6 with Miss Stokes

5/6 have had a great start to term three! We have had a lot of fun doing activities for NAIDOC week, writing interesting information reports, improving our number skills and having fun outside!

STEM with Miss Pennicott

Prep to year 2 students have been developing their knowledge of algorithms in STEM so far this term, preparing for upcoming lessons using BeeBots. Students in year 3 to 6 have commenced the planning stage of designing their mini-golf course models. It is wonderful to see the high levels of creativity and enthusiasm towards our STEM lessons so far this term.
