Wellbeing and Supports

At Bagdad Primary School we have strong support structures and programs in place to help our students be the best they can be. Our student support and wellbeing team work collaboratively with staff and students to ensure that every student achieves success and are supported in their emotional and social wellbeing. We have a dedicated team including a Social Worker, Speech Therapist, School Psychologist and School Nurse.

Bagdad Best

The Bagdad Best is made up of four key parts including Positive Behaviour, Wellbeing, Learning and Values. This framework guides our students, staff and community in enabling everyone to feel safe, happy and valued.

Positive Behaviour Supports

At Bagdad Primary School we are guided by our Department of Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) Values of Respect, Courage, Growth, Responsibility and Connection. These values underpin our Positive Behaviour Supports (PBS) structures, supports and responses to ensure our students, staff, and community are happy, safe, and engaged learners.

We do this by:

  • Use of Bagdad Primary School Positive Behaviour Supports to manage behaviour in a consistent manner across the school.
  • Each classroom and specialist subject has developed a set of clear and explicit expectations on how students learn and interact with each other in that room.
  • The Resilience Project program is part of the curriculum for all students.
  • Use of positive supports to encourage positive interactions, engagement in learning and behaviours.
  • Use of Good Teaching Trauma Informed Practice Guide to support trauma informed practices across the school.
  • Use of Good Teaching Differentiated Teaching Practice to support students with a wide range of learning needs.
  • Student Voice.
  • Most importantly develop strong relationships with our students and school community.

We believe successful behaviour management is acting to meet student’s needs rather than simply reacting. Our Whole School Positive Behaviour Support Plan, Policy and Procedures relies on the commitment of staff to promote and support appropriate behaviour and to assist students to modify inappropriate behaviour. Therefore, the emphasis is on repairing and rebuilding relationships and reflection of past behaviours rather than punishment. We  understand that mistakes are part of learning and that learning from failure can lead to strength through goal setting, challenging ourselves and persistence.

Resilience Project

The Resilience Project delivers emotionally engaging programs and provides evidence-based, practical wellbeing strategies to build resilience among our students, staff and wider community.

Zones of Regulation

Bagdad Primary School utilises the Zones of Regulation across our whole school from Kinder to Year 6. The Zones of Regulation is an approach to teach regulation by categorising all the different ways we feel and states of alertness we experience into four concrete-coloured zones. The Red, Yellow, Blue and Green Zones.

Learning Plans:

At Bagdad Primary we make sure that every student can participate and achieve no matter their background, ability or language.  We provide supports so that every student is included and gets the help they need to improve their learning outcomes. Teachers work with families, students and specialist staff to consider a student’s strengths, goals, and needs to personalise their learning. If required, teachers use Learning Plans to personalise learning and note adjustments made for a student to help them achieve their learning goals.
